The app now shows a message when localhost fails, then asks for you to replace with 127..

So this works instead, not using 'localhost' but 127.0.0.1 directly

Localhost does not point to 127.0.0.1.

When the user points to localhost, then the app cannot find the mongo connection, because localhost points to ::1:

Michael: Yes that's the same ping response I'm getting. It works fine with the IP and I've set up a local DNS record that works well too
Thanks very much for having a look at this for me. 
Perhaps a solution would be a notification after a failed localhost test, followed by a 127... test that asks the user if they want to use 127... and have it change the field and run the test.

Andy Gee: Yes, that's a good idea. I'm still thinking about an elegant and good UX solution.
